Translated from the original Spanish 1893 first edition by Vicente del Carmen. With an introduction by Fr. Isacio Rodriguez, O.S.A. In ‘Status of the Philippines in 1800’, Fr. Joaquin Martinez de Zuñiga [Zuniga] provides a detailed, critical account of the archipelago at the turn of the 19th century. He documents Spanish colonial control, population, social conditions, and economic activities, while highlighting the need for reforms to address underdevelopment.
