Description
Vintage chromolithograph trade card shows the Philippine Flag in the series of ‘Flags of the World’, no. #41, with background image of General MacArthur taken from the photo of his Leyte landing in 1944 and a Filipino climbing a coconut tree with a lambanog container on his back. Verso shows in colour some statistics about the Philippines, such as the total 21 million inhabitants, the former capital Quezon City, and “How they say Hello – Friend – Thanks – Goodbye” and its pronunciation (which when followed sounds Tagalog with a heavy English accent…). Issued in 1959 by A&BC, or A&BC Chewing Gum Ltd., a British company best known for the bubble gum that came with collectible cards, encompassing subjects from sports, pop culture, and war and history. The cards were especially popular in the 1950s-1970s.
