Botanical print from “Curtis’s Botanical Magazine, Comprising the Plants of the Royal Gardens of Kew, and of Other Botanical Establishments in Great Britain, Vol. 1 of the Third Series (or Vol. 71 of the Whole Work.), pl. 4163. Walter Hood Fitch (1817–1892) was a botanical illustrator, born in Glasgow, Scotland, who executed some 10,000 drawings for various publications. His work in colour lithograph, including 2700 illustrations for Curtis’s Botanical Magazine, produced up to 200 plates per year. His nephew, John Nugent Fitch (1840–1927), also produced illustrations for Curtis’s Botanical Magazine. Sir William Jackson Hooker (1785-1865) was an English botanist and botanical illustrator, who became the first director of Kew when in 1841 it was recommended to be placed under state ownership as a botanic garden. At Kew he founded the Herbarium and enlarged the gardens and arboretum. The standard author abbreviation Hook. is used to indicate this person as the author when citing a botanical name. Found in trees in the lowland forest of Assam, Bangladesh, Eastern Himalayas, Nepal, Andaman Islands, Myanmar, Thailand, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, Malaysia, Borneo, Java, Sumatra, Moluccas, Sulawesi and the Philippines at elevations of 20 to 1800 meters. This species blooms in summer with up to 15 flowers. Flowers are fragrant and 1.4 cm wide.
