Botanical print from “Curtis’s Botanical Magazine, Comprising the Plants of the Royal Gardens of Kew, and of Other Botanical Establishments in Great Britain, Vol. 16 of the Third Series (or Vol. 86 of the Whole Work.), pl. 5188. Walter Hood Fitch (1817–1892) was a botanical illustrator, born in Glasgow, Scotland, who executed some 10,000 drawings for various publications. His work in colour lithograph, including 2700 illustrations for Curtis’s Botanical Magazine, produced up to 200 plates per year. His nephew, John Nugent Fitch (1840–1927), also produced illustrations for Curtis’s Botanical Magazine. Vincent Brooks (1815-1885) was London based printer and lithographer whose firm took over Day & Son in 1867 to form Vincent Brooks, Day & Son. Callisia warszewicziana (Purple Roseling) is an attractive evergreen perennial to 1 foot tall with clusters of rosettes holding broad 8 to 10 inch long lanceolate sessile green leaves with visible parallel veins and smooth margins.
