This book is a collection of memoirs and essays by Felix M. Roxas, originally published as a column in the Spanish-language newspaper ‘El Debate’. It provides a rare, firsthand account of life among the Filipino ilustrado (educated elite) class during the late Spanish and early American
colonial periods. Felix M. Roxas (1863–1936), served as Mayor of Manila from 1905 to 1917, was a prominent judge, and also served as Undersecretary of Education. He resumed his journalistic career as writer for ‘El Debate’ between 1926 and 1936.
