Description
RARE original-colour lithograph map from ‘Report on the Geology of the Philippine Islands…’.
While derived from the same source material as the Algué atlas maps, the Becker issue exhibit several notable differences: reduced in size due to overall cropping, with certain areas (e.g., Borneo) further truncated, and is issued with a centerfold; the cartouche is repositioned to the right side (rather than left) with the designation “No. 4” omitted; the legend (“Signos”) is moved to the upper right instead of beneath the cartouche on the left; and there are slight variations in coloring.
References such as “Twenty-First Annual Report Part III, Pl. LXVII” appear in the upper right, indicating its inclusion within the U.S. Geological Survey report context. The map should be understood as a distinct derivative issue of the original Algué, differing in format, layout, and production.
