Homann [1633-1724] was born in Bavaria turned Lutheran and moved to Nuremberg in 1702 He was appointed as Geographer to the Emperor (Kaiser) of the Holy Roman Empire in 1715. A prolific publisher, he produced some 200 maps and several atlases. After his death, Homann Heirs published a huge number of maps in many forms and editions. While the maps of the Homann Heirs are relatively common, those of the founding father Johann Baptist are scarce.
