Description
hand-coloured copper engraving.
RARE map from ‘Historische Beschryving de Reizen …’, Dutch edition of the Prevost Voyages “Histoire générale des voyages”, published first in Paris, 1746. Shows a bird’s eye view of the city and bay of Manila; several large and small sailing ships in the Bay. Bellin based this engraving on the manuscript watercolour plate no. 60 ‘De Stadt Manilha’ (45 x 64 cm.) of the Johannes Vingboon Atlas [c. 1660] which contained 107 finely coloured maps, plans and panoramic views of the area covered by the charter of the VOC – Vereenigde Oostindische Compagnie. (United Netherlands East India Company)
