Share Certificate of the Galleon Trade Company as issued by the Real Compañia de Filipinas, Madrid; with manuscript insertions + signatures of the company’s directors, accountant, and treasurer. Magnificent impression intaglio print of ‘alegoría del Comercio de Oriente’, work of Cosme Acuña engraved by Fernando Selma. The company was reated in 1785, under the direction of Francisco Cabarrús, to handle the export of various goods to the colonies. It received the free trade license for India and China. In return, the company was supposed to bring silver into the country. When a decree on freedom of trade for foreign textiles was announced in September 1789, the monopoly fell. The company was dissolved in 1834, although it had been inactive since 1794.
