The phrase “YENI OKYANUSYA” translates to “New Oceania” and refers to a map from the late Ottoman period showing the area of Oceania and the possessions of foreign powers including the USA, France, Germany, Netherlands, and the United Kingdom. This map was prepared by the officers of Ottoman Infantry and reflects an interest in cartography and global geography during the empire’s final decades.
