Description
original green-tinted lithograph.
SCARCE map of the Philippines and Palau from ‘Die Palau – Inseln im Stillen Ocean’.
Natural Scientist Dr. Semper (1832-93), Professor at the WĂ¼rzburg University, travelled from Manila to the Palau Islands on an intended 3 months trip (leaving behind his Philippine bride Anna) only to be caught in many adventures, eventually returning to Manila after one year into Anna’s arms, who was about to embark on a search-and rescue mission with several friends who had given him up for dead. His narrative is written with great aplomb, exciting and captivating.
With Addenda on the extinction of their natives , their Etymology and Anthropology.
