Map from “Allgemeiner Hand-Atlas der Ganzen Erde..” pl. 45; The simple cartouche states that the map was drawn according to the latest observations and designed at the Seeberg Observatory in Gotha, an internationally acclaimed German study centre, with scientifically advanced instruments. Reinecke (1768-1818) was a scientist and polymath who spoke many languages and worked in a variety of fields, like cartography and paleontology, wrote poems and composed songs. As a cartographer, he produced a large number of maps.
