Severo Gómez Núñez (1859-1939) was a Spanish soldier, politician, writer, and geographer, who lived in Spain witnessing firsthand the end of the colonies and, most especially, the loss of Cuba, where he was stationed during the Cuban War of Independence and the subsequent Spanish-American War, participating in both as an artillery captain.
