353 pp with index, hardbound, with 17 illustrations., 5 text maps and 11 coloured maps, Author’s preface is dated 1890, decorated cloth binding “Adventures of Great Explorers”. 1st American edition, published by Dodd, Mead & Company, New York, as part of their series “Adventures of Great Explorers”. All maps show darker colouring than the British edition which also does not boast the pictorial full cloth cover. The colour maps range from world maps depicting Magellan’s circumnavigation to Behaim and Schoener Globes, etc.
