This compendium of facsimiles in full colour of secret VOC and WIC manuscripts of the 17th Century was published by Fibula-Van Dishoeck [Unieboek b.b.] in Haarlem as a run of 1000 only. This splendid volume contains handdrawn and painted maps, charts and views, dating from c. 1660 which have never been printed before, depicting – aside from the Philippines: maps 11, 60, and 61 – Venezuela, Guyana, Brazil, the Caribbean, fine views of New Amsterdam, Acapulco, Havana, Pernambuco, Olinda, etc. Vingboon was a Dutch cartographer and water colourist of exotic lands based on scrupulous research, based on reports and sketches that masters and merchants on their travels under the VOC (Dutch East India Company) and WIC (Dutch West India Company).
